Rae Ruth Dorsey (nee Ladwein) , born December 19. 1925 to John Joseph and Ruth Ellen Ladwein passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2024, just eight days after her 99th birthday.

Rae grew up in Roseland, IL alongside her parents, her brother Don and sisters Corrine and Jackie.  She is survived by her sister, Jackie Ladwein; her seven children, Deborah, Dawn, Denise, Deidre, Dana, Dianne and John; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

In 1944, Rae met Jack Dorsey at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago while she was training to be a nurse.  They married on February 9, 1946 and settled in Hammond, IN to raise their family together.

Rae was an avid reader who cherished sharing stories with her children through the books she read aloud to them.  She also had a passion for decorating and remodeling; even in recent years.  Rae reupholstered a vintage rocking chair with care and creativity.

A longtime member of Fitness Point in Munster, Rae enjoyed staying active through walking, water aerobics and chair yoga.

Rae’s life was defined by her love for family, friends and a creative spirit.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Cloister in the Woods 1101 Park Drive Munster, IN from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm.  Interment was private at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery Hammond, IN.
