Ralph J. Prendergast, 86 of Hammond, IN passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Prendergast; daughters: Linda (James) Thomas, Kathleen Shapiro, Mary (Richard) Ward, Colleen (Scot) King and Patricia Prendergast; brothers: Robert (Marcella) Prendergast and John (Jean) Prendergast; grandchildren: Stephen Thomas, Stephanie (Jamie) Attfield, Anne Shapiro, Kate Shapiro, Rebecca Shapiro, Angela (Curtis) Mueller, Adam Ward, Hunter King, Cheyanne King and Kassidy King; great granddaughter: Aaralynne Shapiro; stepdaughter: Jean (James) Schreiner; stepson: John (Lu) Reed; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; Many wonderful friends; Preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Mary Prendergast; sister: Patricia (Ken) Nowlan; former wife: Eva Prendergast. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. (Elks service Thursday 6:30 PM) and on Friday from 10:30-11:00 at the church. Funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 AM at the 1st United Methodist Church, 6635 Hohman Ave, Hammond, IN. Cremation will follow. Ralph was a former member of All Saints Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and most recently 1st United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a current member of the Elk’s Lodge #981. In his past he enjoyed barbershop quartet singing, bowling, golfing and was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He was a great cook. He was employed as an accountant during his life and retired from the Visiting Nurses Association, NWI. He was a World War II Navy Veteran involved in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Hospice or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
