Reverend Dorothy Ann Palmer, 66, of Milwaukee, WI, passed away August 11, 2013 in Deerfield, IL surrounded by her family and her music after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. Preceded in death by parents Robert Adelbert and Dorothy (Wild) Palmer of Hammond, IN. Survived by sister Mary Gardner, brother-in-law Mark Gardner, and cherished nephew Wyatt Gardner; uncle Wallace Henderson (late Violet Wild Henderson); aunt Mary Ann Wild (late William Wild); and many dear cousins, extended family, friends, colleagues, and members of many congregations. Dorothy was born in Hammond, IN, attended Hammond High School (Class of 1964), and was a piano student of the Chicago Conservatory of Music. Dorothy received her B.S. & M.S. degrees in Education from Indiana University and Master of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary. First employed by Hammond Public Library and Public School System, she taught elementary education for 16 years at Columbia, Irving, and Lincoln Schools. After seminary, Dorothy trained in hospital chaplaincy at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL. Ordained into the ministry of the United Church of Christ (UCC) at Immanuel UCC in Highland, IN, Reverend Palmer served many churches: Peace UCC, Merrillville, IN; St. Paul UCC, LaPorte, IN; Immanuel UCC, Highland, IN; First Congregational UCC, Platteville, WI; Mt. Zion UCC, Cornelia, WI; Zion UCC, Milwaukee, WI; Congregational UCC, Edgerton, WI; Immanuel Reformed UCC, Wauwatosa, WI; and Faith UCC, Milwaukee, WI. Funeral Service: Saturday, August 24, 2013, 11:00AM, Immanuel United Church of Christ, 2201 Azalea Dr., Highland, IN. Interment: Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
