Richard Earl Ryder, age 95, of Munster, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dolores; son, David (Brenda) Ryder; daughters, Amy (Eric) Watterson and Rebecca (Thomas) Lazar; cherished grandchildren: Brooke and Erica Ryder; William, Kevin, and Jennifer Watterson; Tenley and Maryn Lazar. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Madge Ryder and Joan Schild, many nieces and nephews, and by his devoted caregiver Florence Mambwa. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Fanny and Harry Ryder; sons, Richard Alan and John Ryder; brother, Charles Ryder; sister, Nancy (Ed) Millaway; brother-in-law, George Schild; and sister-in-law, Joyce Schild.Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 pm. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will be private at Oak Ridge Cemetery Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be on Wednesday, at the funeral home, from 2:00 p.m. until the 6:00 p.m. service.Richard enjoyed a wonderful childhood filled with great memories growing up in small-town Sandwich, IL, during the 20s and 30s. He went on to Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Richard served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army in both World War II, receiving a Bronze Star, and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Amoco Oil, Whiting Refinery, after 35 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Amoco Annuitants Club, Plymouth Congregational Church of Whiting, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2697, and he was a railroad history buff and astronomy enthusiast. Richard was a friendly, intelligent, conversational man with a wonderful sense of humor.
