Richard James Brandenburg, of Lowell, IN born on May 8, 1965, in Hammond, IN and formerly
of Highland, IN was called home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Richard was a devoted husband,
father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, son and friend whose kindness and willingness to help
others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Richard shared 18 loving years with his wife, Cheryl Brandenburg. Together they built a life
centered on love, family and caring for others. He was a supportive, giving, and devoted husband
whose steady presence meant so much to those closest to him.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Brandenburg; his children, Lauren Sipla and Derek (Jane
Dennis) Brandenburg; his stepchildren, Anthony Brown, Alexander Kazmierczak, and Alden
(Courtney) Kazmierczak; his cherished grandchildren; his brother, Bill Brandenburg (late Pam);
his sister, Patty (late John) Hrej; along with many loving nieces, nephew, extended family
members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Brandenburg
and Mary (nee Skilling) Brandenburg; sister, Margaret Brandenburg; brother-in-law, John; and
sister-in-law, Pam.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Kish Funeral Home
10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Hammond, IN.
Visitation will be on Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on
Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service.
Richard enjoyed the simple things in life and loved spending time outdoors. His hobbies
included fishing and cars and baseball (NY Yankees), and he took great pride in working on his
home and land. He stayed busy building a pond and planting more than 300 trees, creating
something lasting for future generations to enjoy.
Richard recently retired after 30 years of dedicated service with CN Railroad, where he was
known for his strong work ethic and commitment. No matter whether someone was family, a
friend, or a stranger, Richard was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Richard will be remembered for his generous heart, his dedication to family, and the love he
shared so freely. He leaves behind countless memories that will continue to live on in the hearts
of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Richard’s name to Bethel Church Crown Point,
IN.
