Robert Bruce Pierce, age 93, of Highland, IN, passed away Tuesday September 8, 2015. Born February 2, 1922 to Frank Pierce and Mabel Keyes. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian (nee Sutton) Pierce, and the late Adeline (nee Gadbois) Pierce. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert A. Pierce. He is survived by his son, Ronald (Jeanette) Pierce, and his daughter, Pamela J. (Richard) DeRobertis; also surviving is his sister, Barbara Crosse, of Wildomar, CA; additionally surviving are grandchildren Ashley and Adam Kaufman, Alicia, Gala and Jon Michael Pierce, Sara Hart; two great grandchildren, Melanie and Pierce; and also numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday September 13, 2015 at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm. Interment is scheduled promptly for 1:00 p.m. with Military Honors, on Monday September 14, 2015 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Born at the Pullman Hospital in Chicago, IL, Robert graduated from Fenger High School in 1942 and later that year entered the Army. Assigned to the 91st Recon Squadron, he saw combat action in North Africa and Europe. A Recipient of the Purple Heart, Robert was wounded in Italy during combat operations in April of 1945. He was discharged later that year, and returned to civilian life, where he became a welder, and eventually retired from Blaw-Knox. He loved his family, and especially enjoyed taking vacations, and traveling by car around the United States with his family to National Parks and scenic sites.
