Robert C. Schneider Sr., 91, of Lansing, formerly of Calumet City IL, passed away August 6, 2011. Born January 27, 1920, in West Hammond IL, he is survived by wife Ida (Darlak) Schneider, son Robert (Kathy) Schneider Jr., daughter Kathleen (Dennis) Halloran, and son Henry (Nancy) Schneider; seven grandchildren, Thomas (Christine) Schneider; Susanne (Curt) Bailey; Peggy (Daniel) Szumski; Eric Schneider; Mary (Richard) Crowley; Mollie Schneider and Kaitlyn Schneider. Nine great-grandchildren: Troy Schneider, Madeline Bailey, Trent Schneider, Zachary Szumski,, John Crowley, Brigid Crowley, Megan Bailey, Andrew Szumski, Lukas Brne. Two step-children Lynn (David ) Cox and Randy (Mena) Darlak. Three step grand-children Adrienne Guerrero; Lawrence and Alyssa Darlak. Preceded in death by parents Morris and Ruth (Perkins) Schneider, wife Rita (Breen) Schneider, sister Lorraine Ruedi; great-grandchildren Angel Bailey and Maxwell Szumski. step-children Jerry Darlak and Sue Zmuda. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 3:00-9:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Wednesday from 10:00-10:30 at the church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Victor Church, Calumet City, IL with Fr. Len Dubi officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, IN.Graduate of Thornton Fractional High School Class of 1938; member of the District 215 Board of Education from 1959-63; member of St. Victor Parish; past president of the Sacred Heart Society; past president of the Holy Name Society; past member of the Archdiocese of Chicago Holy Name Society Cardinal’s Advisory Board; member of the Loyal Order of Moose; proud member of the Kentucky Colonels. Employee of Deluxe Cleaners & Dyers and Sam Alperts Dry Goods in Calumet City; owner of Convenient Food Mart in Lansing; director of Building Maintenance at TF North High School. “Baldo,” as he was affectionately called, was an avid sports fan and wore many hats, including the Chicago White Sox and the Green Bay Packers. “Bad Bob” enjoyed horse racing and was an annual attendee at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville on the first Saturday in May. “Blue Eyes” was an avid model train collector, cigar lover (domestics only, please) and a devotee of potato vodka. “Pops” athletic activities included pitching “smoke balls” for the St. Victor’s Church softball team and mixing “snow-shoes” (enough said!) He loved life, lived it to the fullest and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Victor Community Meals, St. Victor Church, Moosehart Charities or Kentucky Colonels Good Works Fund.
