Robert E. Quinn of Dyer, IN passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the age of 78. He was the son of Martin and Regina (nee Lannan) Quinn of East Chicago, IN. Bob received his early education at St. Mary’s of East Chicago. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1962. Bob was always proud to be a Roosevelt “Rough Rider”. He was called to duty by the U.S. Army Corp. in 1966 and he served in the Reserves from 1968 thru 1972.
Bob married Katherine Caroline Younkers at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Hammond, IN on June 11, 1966. They had their daughter Patricia Ann on January 5, 1968. “Coach Quinn” devoted many hours to the Dyer’s Girl Softball League from 1976-1986. He said that was a “labor of love.” Besides coaching, Bob was an avid golfer participating in leagues at Broadmoor, Monastery and Scherwood courses. He was a bowling league member at Lynwood and Stardust Lanes. Bob certainly kept busy with many fishing trips but the most important to him was the annual July trip to Canada with “The Boy’s.” He even got to enjoy some hunting outings at Stan Lukasik’s Farm in Lowell, IN.
As luck would have it, he met his wife Bonnie on St. Patrick’s Day in 1996. He married Bonnie (nee Preuss) Savino on June 13, 1998.
Besides his family, who he was devoted to, he was most proud of his 63-year career in office supplies sales. Bob worked for Nassau and Thompson Office Supply Co. of East Chicago, IN from 1959 to 2000. In 2000, he joined the sales team at McShane’s in Munster, IN. In September 2022, Bob retired from Pulse Technology of Chesterton, IN. He was known all over Lake County as an honest, service oriented and sincere man.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie K. Savino Quinn; his daughter, Patricia Ann (nee Quinn) Marco; son-in-law, Jay Marco; his step children, Kristin Savino and C. Kyle and Angela (nee Horvat) Savino; sister, Mary Ann (nee Quinn) Sulski: brother-in-law, Ernest Sulski; grandchildren, Zachary Marco, Alexander and Karla (nee Alvarado) Marco, Jessica Marco, Tye Savino and Rocco Savino. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Regina Quinn; his grandparents; his sister, Martina (nee Quinn) Jarysak Maciejewski; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Jarysak, Paul Maciejewski and Richard Younkers; and his nephew, James Jarysak.
He had a special place in his heart for all his aunts, uncles, cousins and work mates.
Bob was such a positive person that his mug was always three-quarters full. He will be remembered all over Lake County as a positive, helpful, caring, service oriented, honest and joyful man.
