Robert F. Shields, 93, of Munster, IN, formerly of Chicago Heights, Crete, IL and part-time resident of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away January 1, 2015. He is survived by his loving daughters: Debra (Robert Westhoff) Shields of Crete, IL, Cynthia (Steven) Vuckov of Schererville, IN and Judith Shields of Crete, IL; grandson, Matthew (Jennifer) Vuckov of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Bernadine McPolin; brother-in law, Walter Yandel; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine (late Richard) Moravek; step-brothers: Rev. Patrick McPolin and John McPolin; former wife, Marie Shields; parents: Francis Shields, Adele Shields McPolin, and step-father, Patrick J. McPolin. Bob was born in Chicago, a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School, a three time championship football player. He graduated from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN where he participated on the football and golf teams. Serving as an officer in the US Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War, he fought in the battle of Iwo Jima and served combat duty in Korea. He later served in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1957. Mr. Shields had a long career as an investment broker for over six decades and was currently associated with Wells Fargo Investment Advisors. A member of Olympia Fields and Lincolnshire Country Clubs, he loved and excelled at golf. An avid pilot, he was active at the Lansing Airport. He was a member of (AOPA) Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Visitation will be held on Tues., January 6, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 7, 10:00 a.m. until prayers at 10:45 a.m. at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN. Funeral Mass, 11:30 a.m. at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 22400 S. Torrence Ave., Sauk Village, IL. Interment at Holy Sepulchre following.
