Robert J. Mendez Sr, 76, of Beecher, IL passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie (nee Carlson); son, Robert (Mary) Mendez Jr; daughters, Tina (David Corder) Mendez and Renee Mendez; grandchildren, Robert Mendez III and Celena Matalin; sister, Lucille Edelmaier; several nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Matalin. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and Wednesday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St James Church, Sauk Village, IL. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Robert served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Republic / LTV Steel after 36 years of service and was a member of St. James Church.

Dear Marie and the whole Mendez family...We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Bob, wow what can I say???What a wonderful family and best neighbors we have had in our life.They were always there for us when we needed them when we were neighbors in calumet city.Bob was the happiest, easiest going guy around.He just loved spending time in the pool with the kids and don't forget the dogs they were in the pool too,or laying in the driveway in his lounge chair taking a nap after work.:)Those were the best times we had raising our boys in cal city with the Mendez's as neighbors....Thanks for the great memories Bob you will be so lovingly missed.We do love all of you and be good to each other ...
