Romula “Romin” Fernandez, age 98 of Dyer, IN passed on Thursday, January 1, 2026.  She is survived by her children, Mirta Fernandez, Chico Fernandez, Carmen (Chuck) Fernandez and Lil (Wayne) Polston; grandchildren, Nicholas (Lyndsey) Fernandez and Melissa Fernandez; great grandchildren, Marcus, Vivian, Joseph and Layla; and siblings, Catalina Ramirez, Reyita Ortiz and Jose Antonio (Madeline) Ortiz.  Romin was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Fernandez; parents, Jesus and Natalia Ortiz and Papá Tomas and Mamá Juana; and siblings, Digna Ortiz, Laura Ortiz, Lucila Ortiz, Antonia Ortiz and Juana Iris Ortiz.

Funeral Services will begin with prayers at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2025 at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN followed by a 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN offered by Reverend Leo Gajardo.  Interment will follow at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery Hammond, IN.  Visitation will be on Thursday, at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. prayers.

Romula was loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed.  She loved to sew and was quite the seamstress. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Romin’s name to St. Jude’s Research Hospital for Children and Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana.
