Ronald Charles Markovich, age 75 formerly of Munster and Hammond, IN
passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023. He is survived by his two sons,
Ronald (Jennifer) Markovich of Crown Point, IN and Daniel (Courtney) Markovich
of Munster, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Virginia
Markovich; and wife, Alexandra “Sandy” (nee Sekulski) Markovich.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 directly at Carmelite
Fathers Monastery 1628 Ridge Road Munster, IN with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of
Christian Burial offered by the Carmelite Fathers. Interment will follow at Holy
Cross Cemetery Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28,
2023 at KISH FUNERAL HOME 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN from 3:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m. and again on Friday, at the church from
9:30 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
Ron was born in 1948 and raised in Glen Park (Gary), IN. He was Veteran of the
US NAVY and proudly served his country in Vietnam. He joined the Hammond Fire
Department shortly after his military service and retired as Senior Captain with
over 30 years of service. Serving as a fire fighter was in Ron’s blood and an honor
to him. He jumped at any opportunity to help people, even up to his last days.
Known as “The Bear” on the fire department and all around Hammond, Ron could
always bring out a smile in anyone wherever he was. He continued to serve
others as a volunteer at Franciscan Hospital in Dyer, IN upon retirement. Family
and friends were most important to Ron. From daily meetings with the Breakfast
Club in Hammond to offering up a song and dance at many family gatherings, Ron
touched many lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s name to The SHARE
Foundation or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
