Rose Trgovcich (nee Ružica Šurina ) passed away on October 21 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 1, 1937 in the Zagorje region of Croatia (then Yugoslavia). On her second attempt to flee post-war communism, she succeeded in reaching Nice, France where she met and married her husband, Joseph Trgovcich with whom she is now reunited in heaven. Rose and Joseph moved to East Chicago, Indiana in 1960 where they were parishioners of Holy Trinity Church. They moved to Munster in 1972 and joined as parishioners of St. Thomas More Church. Rose worked many jobs throughout her life, including at the St. Thomas More and Munster Hospital cafeterias. She is best known for feeding people at work and her home. No friend or stranger ever left her home hungry and every guest at her table was always encouraged to “eat some more”. It was her cakes, cookies and pastries for which she is most famous and there was no more sublime experience than partaking of one of her sweet or savory strudels. Despite the significant hardships she endured throughout her life, she was a fountain of love and peace. She was selfless, generous, and indefatigable in caring for others, and counselor, friend, hero and respite to all who loved her. She is survived by her four children: Paul Trgovcich (wife, Kathleen Reller), Ben Trgovcich (wife, Andrea So-Trgovcich), Joanne Trgovcich (husband, Shaun Heale) and Diane Trgovcich-Zacok; six grandchildren, Paul, Ryan, Cassandra, Austin, Benjamin and Savannah; and 4 great grandchildren, Tristan, Ryder, Jayden and Saanvi.
Funeral Services will begin with prayers at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023 at KISH FUNERAL HOME 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN followed by a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial offered by the Carmelite Fathers at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will follow at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery Hammond, IN. Visitation will be on Friday, at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. prayers.
