Rosemary Barker (née Volk), age 99, of Munster, IN, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, just weeks shy of her 100th birthday on March 4, 1926.
She is survived by her three daughters: Marcia (Bob) Pischner of Crown Point, IN; Donna Mitsos of Chicago, IL; and Diane Glowacki of Dyer, IN; and one son, David (Annie) Barker of Camarillo, CA. She was the proud grandmother of nine: Erik (Kristel) Pischner, Alan (Shannon) Pischner, Gayle Pischner, Ryan (JeriLynn) Glowacki, Pat (Megan) Mitsos, Jim (Jennison) Mitsos, Ashley Barker (John Conley), Lisa (Jess) Card, and Paul (Molly) Zimmer. Rosemary was also the proud great-grandmother of fifteen: Connor, Madison, Cameron, Ethan, Aidan, Max, Brooks, Ryleigh, Emma, Lyla, Oliver, Dulcie, Daphne, Lydia, Benton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Eugene Barker, and her son, Mark Barker.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 2:00–6:00 p.m. at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN. A prayer service will take place at 2:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 23, 2026, at 12:00 pm at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN, with visitation at the church from 11:30 am until the time of Mass. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN.
Family and friends are invited to gather at White Rhino in Dyer on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, to celebrate Rosemary’s nearly 100 years of life.
Rosemary was a proud 1945 graduate of Hammond Tech High School. She dedicated many years of service to the Bell Telephone Company and later worked in the office at St. Thomas More, retiring in 1992 after 15 years. A devoted parishioner and volunteer, her faith and community were central to her life. An avid bridge player, she cherished time spent with her friends and her large family.
Rosemary will be remembered most for her incredible sense of humor and her “always game” attitude — whether it was a sharp joke, a shared a glass of wine, or a playful fist bump, her smile and quick wit remained bright through her very last days.
Memorial contributions can be sent to Hospice of the Calumet Area or St. Thomas More Church, in her memory.

I am very sorry for the loss of your dear Rosemary. Besides knowing the Barker family for years at St Thomas More and Munster community, I also worked with her in the school office for several years before she retired. She was a delight to work with. Always pleasant, joyful and eager to serve the needs of the staff and many families who were part of STM. Her sense of humor was always present, and we laughed a lot. I will always remember Rosemary with a big smile! May she rest in peace.
