Rosemary “Rosie” Block

Rosemary “Rosie” (nee Kammer) Block, age 96 formerly of Schererville, IN, Calumet City, IL and Whiting, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.  She is survived by her children, Robert “Bob” (Brenda) Block, Beverly (Pete) Doherty and Timothy (Joyce) Block; grandchildren, Amy (Joe) Rokita, Lisa Reid, Robert (Marie) Block, Jr., Peter (Melissa) Doherty, Colleen (David) Moerlein, and Stephanie (Scott) McKinney; great grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas, Nathan, Janelle, Brennan, Logan, Conor, Reagan, Sierra, Jackson and Emma Jean (fiancée Ryan); along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Her special friend and companion, John Beno, will also miss her. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Block in 1982; her parents, Carl and Barbara Kammer; sister, Dorothy Hritz; granddaughter, Amy L. Block; and great granddaughter, Melody Rose McKinney.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN with a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial offered by Reverend Charles Niblick.  Interment will be private.  Visitation will be on Monday, at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. Mass.

Rosie retired after decades of service in Dietary at St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond, IN.  She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Whiting, Standard Oil Annuitants.  Rosie was a Past President of the Calumet City Lady Lions, Pi Sigma Phi Sorority and the Golden Times. She loved to play cards and teach them to her many friends.

Special thanks to the caring staff of Cedarhurst of Dyer, Echo Hospice and Visiting Angels of Schererville, especially Josetta. Rosie will be missed by her resident friends at Cedarhurst. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Rosie’s name to Echo Hospice and/or Visiting Angels.
