Roy E. Wood Jr. passed away at Rush University Medical center, Tuesday, December 21st, 2010. Born in Centralia, IL, to Roy Wood Sr. and Florence Wood (who passed away December 17th, 2010 and brother John in 1947). Roy is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Julia Wood, daughters Anna and Abigail Wood, and sons, Shaun and Erik Wood. He is also survived by his brothers Jim and Mike Wood, and his sister Mary Baughard. He will be missed by his loving dogs Coco, Roxy, Aurora, Borealis, and all of his many friends. Roy was a proud Republican. He served in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer overseas during the Vietnam War. Roy always enjoyed a good laugh. Although his sense of humor at times was crude he was always able to ease the tensions in a room. Roy spent his final years helping to train and raise his daughters dogs as well as his own Siberian huskies, Aurora and Borealis, rescue dogs from PAWS Chicago. These dogs became his passion and helped him find peace after his first battle with cancer ten years ago. Roy also volunteered at the Urbana dog park. Roy’s favorite past time was “talking politics” with his two daughters Abigail and Anna. Roy touched many people’s lives with his wit and humor as well as his caring nature. He treasured his wife and two daughters and proved that love could truly conquer all. “Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.” A Memorial Tribute to remember Roy and his mother Florence will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 6635 Hohman Ave. Hammond, IN 46324. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to PAWS Chicago http://www.pawschicago.org
