Roy Edward Baldwin, age 82 of Griffith, IN passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. He is survived by his devoted partner, Nancy Isenberg; sisters, Evelyn Baldwin and Mary (Frank) Fagyas; brother, Thomas (late Krista) Baldwin; nephews and nieces, David (Diane Dillman) Miranda, Mathew Miranda, Marissa (Jarrod) Deitermann, Lindsay Fagyas, Eric (Tara) Fagyas, Lily Baldwin and Jonathan Baldwin; Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Trudy (nee Stur) Baldwin; parents, Everett Leon and Elizabeth Baldwin; nephew, Paul Miranda; and sister-in-law, Krista Baldwin.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 directly at St. Mary Catholic Church 525 N. Broad St. Griffith, IN with 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial offered by Reverend Keith Virus. Interment will follow at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery Hammond, IN. Visitation will be on Tuesday, at the church from 9:15 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
Roy attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help grade school and graduated in 1959 from Bishop Noll High School where Roy was a standout in football and baseball. He set the State record for yards gained on the ground on the gridiron. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. After Military Service, Roy was a catcher for the Industrial League Baseball team Azteca. He belonged to a local Bowling League and acted in the Highland Community Play the Big Bad Musical in August of 2015. Roy enjoyed his travels including frequent cruises to Mexico, Caribbean Islands and the Bahamas. He was an active member in the United Steelworkers Local 1010 participating with Brother Union members to support Special Olympics and the United Way campaigns. Roy retired from Inland Steel in 2006 and was also a member of the Local Ironworkers Union. He was also an active member with the New Friends Organization.
