Ruth Alice Bjelland, 87, of Munster, IN passed away peacefully in her home on January 7, 2017. Ruth was born November 25, 1929 in Aurora, Illinois to Otto and Olive Kleinsmith. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Andrew. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her daughters Nancy (Steve) Kremer of Carmel, Indiana and Joan (Dave) Stevenson of Greensboro, North Carolina; grandchildren Ben and Kristen Stevenson and Dan, Mark and Brad Kremer; and many nieces and nephews.Ruth graduated from University of Illinois with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation she taught at Caldwell School in Hammond. She met Andy, the love of her life, at a Standard Oil party, and they were happily married for 60 years. Life was not the same after he passed away in April of 2015.Ruth was active in Tri Kappa, PEO, bridge club, garden club, and Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a former deacon. She and Andy enjoyed traveling, especially to areas where they could spend time with family and friends. The trips to Naples, Florida every winter were very special times where they enjoyed tennis, golf, swimming and socializing with relatives and friends. Their most treasured times were visits with their children and grandchildren, truly the pride and joy of their lives. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., both at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Munster, Indiana.
