Samuel Vangeloff, 88, of Munster, IN formerly of East Chicago, IN passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Riley Hospice Residence in Munster, IN. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary “Mac” Vangeloff; cherished daughters, Dana (John) Marthakis of Dyer, IN and Gail (Dennis) Kozlowski of Crown Point, IN; loving grandchildren, Nicholas Krizman of Highland, IN and Gina Krizman of Crown Point, IN; Godsons and nephews, Thomas (Lynn) Ancich of Westfield, IN and Thomas Colvin of Fort Wayne, IN; special niece and nephew, Maryann Wolski (son, Michael) of Springfield, MO, Anthony (Marie) Ancich (daughters, Devon and Brianne) of Noblesville, IN. Family of Fort Wayne, IN. Marcella Burtch, Joseph (Betty) Colvin and many dear nieces and nephews; Lastly, his best friend and adoring dog, Heidi. Preceded in death by his parents, Vasille and Tsanka Vangeloff; only sibling and her husband, Victoria and Anthony Ancich. Born June 22, 1922, Sam grew up in the Indiana Harbor area of East Chicago, graduated from Washington High School in 1941, where he became a loyal fan of the ECW Senators. He was a talented Master Brick Mason where he received his apprenticeship from Inland Steel, retired from the East Chicago School City after many years of dedicated service, also a Gold card member of the Bricklayers International Union. He proudly served his country for 4 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a gunner on a B-52 in Guam and Iwo Jima. Sam was fiercely loyal to his family, country and favorite Chicago White Sox and all who knew him will remember him for his sense of humor and sharp wit. We will miss Sam deeply. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Fr. Michael Yadron officiating. Cremation to follow service. Friend may gather with the family on Friday, July 9, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and Saturday from 11:30-12:00 Noon at the church.
