Sandra Manes Singer, age 82, of Schererville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday September 25, 2024. Sandy grew up in Hollywood, Florida. She obtained her PhD degree in Psychology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1976 and was a researcher there until 1980, when she joined the ISUE (now University of Southern Indiana) faculty in Evansville, Indiana. She became the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at USI in 1987. In 1992, Sandy moved to Purdue University Calumet and served as the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs until 2002 when she became Professor of Psychology, a position she held until her retirement in 2013.
Throughout her life, Sandy was committed to helping others. She served on the Boards of Directors of Girl Scouts in both Evansville and the Calumet Counsil, the Board of Tradewinds Services and the Board of Franciscan Health Care Northern Indiana Region.
She is survived by her husband, Allan Kuse, children Cathryn (Paul) Crane and Scott (Fleur Dragan) Singer, grandchildren Ellen (Dan) and Oliver, and sisters Jo Anne Phillips and Judy (Charles) Caruso. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Rebecca Manes and sister Roberta Manes.
Cremation arrangements were made by Kish Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Franciscan Health Foundation Food Insecurity Fund or Tradewinds Services. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
