Saralie Herakovich was born into eternal life on a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning, October 5, 2008. Born December 29, 1970, Saralie had a \”Joie de Vivre\” that touched everyone she came in contact with. She is best known for her love of life, family and friends. Saralie lit up any room she entered with her bright smile and warm, outgoing personality. She would be your friend within minutes. Saralie lived her life by the the Gandhi quote \”be the change you see in the world.\” She truly wanted to make this world a more positive and a better place. She taught those around her to do just that. The love of Saralie's life was her son Rainy. But, Saralie was a \”pied piper\” of sorts to all children. They loved her and gravitated toward her. She was a coach for Munster Soccer, a volunteer at Frank H. Hammond School and she lived every day with passion and love. She believed Dr. Haim Ginoot said it well, \”children are like wet cement, whatever falls on them makes an impression.\” She had a childlike wonder herself, as she saw life as the Prince did in one of her favorite books \”The Little Prince.\” She didn't see the hat, but saw the boa constrictor swallowing an elephant, as a child would. While being with people filled her life with joy, she also loved traveling and spreading her special \”Sara-love\” farand wide. Saralie traveled extensively in the United States and loved the mountains of Colorado, the beaches of California and North Carolina. During the past two years, she traveled to see her Chicago Bears, a team she loved, in the Super Bowl in 2007, to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, to the California coast and had several adventures across Europe, including Italy, France and Croatia. Sara was a good athlete, being an adventurous skier though the Rocky Mountains and constantly shared her memories of being part of the Munster Girls Softball team that won a state championship. Her name is on the sign at Community Park in Munster. She made many lifetime friends being a part of the Munster High School golf team. There is nothing Sara loved more than her son and the children around her. She could be seen waiting outside Frank Hammond School with a box of popsicles for the kids after school or spreading her arm like an airplane running across the lawn with a dozen children following behind her. All birthdays were special to Sara as she always made them a grand event with dozens of balloons, presents and streamers. She made everyone she came in contact with feel special. A 1989 Graduate of Munster High School, Sara graduated with honors from Columbia College in Chicago. While she worked with appraisals and home mortgages she most liked jobs being around people, including her work at Chicago restaurants Cafe Iberico, Carmines‚Äôs, La Notte and Pizzeria Uno. Saralie is survived by her beloved 11-year-old son Rainy Matthew Herakovich, her loving parents Donald and Rita Herakovich of Munster, a sister Darcy Herakovich Bretz of Bartlett, Illinois and a brother Adam Herakovich (Trish) of Glenview, Illinois and her nephews whom she adored, Spencer and Harrison Bretz as well as her maternal grandmother Frances Janicki. Saralie had many loving aunts, uncles and cousins and so many friends around the world. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Rudolph and Mary Herakovich and her maternal grandfather Joseph Janicki.
