It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Stamatis Sakoutis, on May 10, 2026. Stamatis was born March 15,1978, in Hammond, Indiana to Stelios and Sophia (née Pamphilis) Sakoutis. From his toddlerhood his parents were fortunate enough to take Stamati to Ikaria, Greece where he fell in love with his Ikarian family and the island itself. One of his greatest joys as an adult was taking his family to Ikaria and watching them have the same experience.
Stamatis met his soulmate Larisa (née Krupenko) and they married on February 18, 2012. They were blessed with three beautiful children – Sophia, Stelios and Valentina. Stamatis’ family was his greatest achievement and their heartache at losing him feels impossible. Stamatis is also deeply mourned by his grandmother, Chrisse Aivaliotis; parents, Stelios and Sophia; sister, Maria (Steve) Melacrinos; sister-in-law, Irina Krupenko; nieces, Alexandra Melacrinos, Ekaterina and Vera Davydova; nephews, Christos and Stelios Melacrinos; uncles, aunts, cousins, koumbari, Godchildren and a colorful and vast collection of loyal friends. Stamatis will live on in all of us who were blessed to have known his larger-than-life loving presence and great bear hugs. May his memory be eternal.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, May 14th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Trisagion Service at 6:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN 46321. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 15th at 10:00 am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 7021 Hohman Ave. Hammond, IN 46324. Interment will follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park Cemetery Crown Point, IN.
