Stanley joined our dear Lord and his heavenly family on Monday, January 23rd. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia (nee Ruszowski), his son Darius, B.S., his daughter Daria, Ph.D., and three generations of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Jan, his mother Aniela, brothers Andrew and Father Thomas Depa and sisters, Josephine Zenka and Victoria Gajewski. Stanley was born in Hammond, Indiana and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II in the European theater, first as a Firefighter and later as a Cryptographer. He returned home and began a career as a firefighter on the Hammond Fire Department and retired after 30 years of service, having attained the rank of Assistant Chief. He then spent 15 years at Inland Steel before retiring again. In 1991 he moved with his wife to Schererville, where they have lived for the past 25 years. Stanley was also a member of The American Legion Post 369 and The Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree) Council 1700, and served as an usher at St. Maria Goretti church. Visitation will be on Monday, January 30th from 10 am to 11 am at St. Maria Goretti church in Dyer, Indiana, followed by the Rosary at 11 am and Mass at 11:30 am. Military Honors will be held after the Mass. A private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will follow later in the day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Outreach at St. Maria Goretti church or to the Share Foundation.
