Stephanie Marie (n√©e Dyrczon) Ruich, age 89, of Munster, IN, formerly of Chicago, IL, died peacefully with loving family surrounding her at Columbus Colony Elderly Care for the Deaf in Westerville, OH, on April 23, 2017.Born and raised in the Davis Square/Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago, Stephanie attended the Parker Practice Elementary School/Chicago School for the Deaf in the 1930s. She was a longtime member of the Southtown Club of the Deaf, where she and her husband Luby lived at the heart of world filled with caring, devoted and spirited friendships. She delighted in telling animated stories with a wry, sometimes bawdy, sense of humor to all she knew.Stephanie lit up in the presence of children. An utterly devoted mother of four and doting, playful grandmother of seven, there was no child she would not care for. Gentle smiles, enveloping hugs, funny faces and sometimes meeting the most basic needs of a child she saw wanting were the currency of her life. A stellar seamstress and knitter, blunt conversationalist and avid bowler, she also made the best vanilla cake icing in the Chicagoland area, according to her family. During her final years at Columbus Colony, she remained a force of kindness and laughter that led some staff members to speak of her as though she was their own grandmother. Her warmth simply made many around her feel cared for. While she is already deeply and profoundly missed, her spirit will certainly illuminate the hearts of countless people she touched for generations to come.Stephanie is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo (Paul) Curosh; sons, James (Colette) Ruich, Paul (Julie) Ruich, and Lawrence Ruich (fianc√©e Tracy Zollinger Turner); grandchildren, Alexandra (Eric) Arcella, Nicholas, Frank, Meghan, Natalia and William Ruich, and Declan Dougan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ljubomir ‚ÄúLuby‚Äù Ruich; parents, Franciszek and Maryanna (n√©e Buczyna) Dyrczon; brother Frances Dyrczon and sister, Geneveive \”Jean\” Dyrczon.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 DIRECTLY at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 8501 Calumet Avenue.
