Dr. Theodore Xenophon Economou, beloved brother, uncle and devoted healer, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 28, 2026 in Munster, Indiana, at the age of 97. For 64 years, he dedicated his life to chiropractic healing, touching countless lives in Calumet City, Illinois and Munster, Indiana.
Ted was born on January 17, 1929 in Hammond, Indiana, to Paul Xenophon Economou and Emily Mueller Economou. He was one of ten children in a close- knit family that shaped his generous spirit and dedication to others.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Alexander and Thomas; and his sisters, Bess Krigel, Helene Norman, Theodora Schultze and Irene Calvin. He is survived by his sisters, Pauline Kovich of Munster, Indiana and Ilse Goldfarb of Pennington, New Jersey; and his brother, Dr. Richard Economou of Greenwood, Indiana. Throughout his long and vibrant life, Ted was surrounded by three generations of a beloved extended family — 32 nieces and nephews and 8 great – nieces and great – nephews — to whom he gave generously of his time, love and unwavering support.
Ted graduated in 1948 from George Rogers Clark High School in Whiting, Indiana, where he was active in the theater group and the National Honor Society, and participated in football, wrestling and track. He attended Wabash College before earning
his degree from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, and taught in Northwest Indiana schools and the Chicago Public School system before being drafted into the Army, serving in Germany from 1953 to 1955.
Upon his discharge– utilizing the GI Bill -Ted found his true calling, enrolling in Logan Basic College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in1960. He opened his first practice in Calumet City, Illinois, later expanding to Munster, Indiana. For more than six decades, Ted devoted himself to natural healing through the unique Logan technique, bringing relief and wellness to generations of patients who trusted in his gentle care and expertise.
Throughout his life Ted was guided by his deep and abiding faith in God.
Memorial Services and Visitation will be held beginning at 2 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Avenue Munster IN with services beginning at 3 PM officiated by Reverend Geraldine Colvin of Unity of Northwest Indiana. Interment with his beloved parents will be at a later date this year.
