T Bentley Duncan, aged 85, of Munster, Indiana, formerly of Whiting and Chicago passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015. He was born in Brazil on August 9, 1929. Bentley received his early education in Brazil, Wales and Scotland and earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster in Ohio, and a PhD from the University of Chicago. He taught, researched and wrote at the Department of History at the University of Chicago for more than thirty years, until his retirement in 1997. He was the author of Atlantic Islands and Uneasy Allies.Bentley met and married his wife, Eva at the University of Chicago, and they married September 1, 1965. They enjoyed a long and happy life together for 49 years. Upon retiring, he and Eva moved from Chicago to Whiting where they enjoyed living in the Little City on the Lake. Eva preceded him in death on December 20, 2014.Visitation will take place on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until a memorial service, celebrating the lives of both Bentley and Eva, at 5:00 p.m. at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster IN. Memorial contributions to the University of Chicago would be appreciated.
