Thomas J. Devich, age 87, of Highland, IN and formerly of Ely, MN, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011. He is survived by his three sons: Donald (fiancee Lucy Stack) of Highland, IN, David (Lynn) of Indianapolis, IN and Douglas (Joyce) of St. John, IN; grandchildren: Jared (Karen) of Elgonkin, IL, Lauren (Jay) Hulls of Indianapolis, IN, Nicholas of St. John, IN and Jared \”GT\” of St. John, IN; great granddaughter, Alyssa Jane; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Francis Devich; and wife, Dorothy (nee Smoltz). Family and friends will gather for a visitation at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Private interment services will be held on Friday. Thomas was a World War II Army veteran and retired from Carpenters Local 599 after more than 55 years of service. He enjoyed watching his sons play ball and never missed a game. He had great pride in his Croatian heritage, spoke six languages and spent many long hours making crafts in his wood shop. During his last years of life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and enjoyed listening and playing Tamburitza music.
