Thomas J. Emro, 71 of Hammond, IN passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol; sons, Todd (Lori) Emro of Mercer, WI. And Timothy (D,Lee) Emro of St. John, IN; daughter, Tracey Emro of Hammond, IN; grandchildren, Natalie, Michael, Bailey, Paityn and Taytum; sister-in-law, Catherine (Leo) Plawecki; preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Emro; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; Friends may visit with the family on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. John Bosco Church, 7113 Columbia Ave. Hammond, IN. During his 46 year career with the Hammond School System, Tom was an accomplished administrator, teacher and coach who loved kids and always strived to bring out the best in each student. During his retirement, Tom continued to coach at Lake Central High School. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan. Tom was a graduate of Clark High School, St. Joseph College and Roosevelt University. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of your choice in his memory would be appreciated.

Very sorry to hear about Mr. Emro's death. He was my science teacher at Spohn. He made a huge impression in my life. I can still picture him at the front of the class giving his bum on the corner speach. What a great teacher who touched so many. He is and will always be one of my favorites!
