Victoria Walker Mattera, age 73 of Dyer, IN, passed peacefully away on March 6, 2025. Vicki is survived by her husband, Dr. Anthony Mattera, and her children and grandchildren — Elizabeth Porter and her husband, Adam Moroschan; James Porter and his partner Ania Kolakowska, and their daughter, Faith Victoria; and Michael Porter and his wife, Jamie Porter, and their sons, Michael and Myles – and also her sisters, Susan Walker and Char Zralka.

Vicki was born on December 20, 1951, in Evergreen Park, IL to Peter and Justine Walker. Upon graduation from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL, she went to nursing school and then began a 50-year career in long-term care, a testament to her tremendous compassion and generous spirit for helping others.

Vicki enjoyed traveling and went with Anthony on many cruises to exotic locations, as well as on trips with her children to Asia and Europe. She loved going to antique markets and always found unique treasures. She was passionate about her plants and garden and was so proud when her yard won a local award for curb appeal. And you could often find her and her best friend, Beverly Paris, at the casino — they never won, but they had fun!

But most of all, Vicki loved being with her family, and she wanted nothing more than to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren at home during her last days. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10 am at St. Maria Goretti Church at 500 Northgate Dr., Dyer, IN, with visitation starting at 9:00 am.
