Virginia B. Poracky, 89 of Munster, IN formerly of Whiting and Hammond, IN passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter by her side, on Sunday, August 11, 2013. Beloved mother of Beth (James) Grauvogl; cherished grandmother of Sarah E. Grauvogl; caring sister of Betty (Joseph) Crnarich; loving and faithful companion, Joe Alishio; special niece, Dana (Steve) Green; fond sister-in-law of Dorothy (late Paul) Poracky and Albert (Helen) Poracky; numerous nieces and nephews; preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter S. Poracky; parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Malatin; fond nephew, Paul D. Keckich. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 3:00-8:00 pm with a prayer service at 3:30 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Wednesday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, Munster, IN. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Gina was a member of St. Thomas More Church and a lifetime member of First Catholic Ladies Slovak Association. She was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1942. She was formerly employed at Borden Company, Federated Metals and WJOB. She will be remembered for her wit and sense of humor. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Hospice of the Calumet Area and her caretakers, Precious, Eunice, Phoebe, Euphrasia, Evelyn and Selina. We also would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Coduti family, Dana Green and others for their love and support the past few weeks. We could not have made it through without you. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of the Calumet Area or the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory would be appreciated.
