Our dear Mother, Virginia Rose (nee Vest) Tinsley, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023. She was 93 years young. Virginia was born in Chicago, IL, to Lloyd and Helen (nee Kern) Vest and had two brothers, Earl and Harold (Buddy), who all preceded her in death. She married Otis “Dick” Tinsley (who preceded her in death) on November 17, 1948. She was ahead of her time as a working mother and raised three exceptional children. Patricia (Ronald-deceased) Ballweg, Michael (Carol) Tinsley, and Susan (Tom) Gohring. She found a soul mate in Dovilio (Shorty) Spagnola (deceased), and they spent many years traveling, spoiling grandkids, and enjoying life. She worked for Illinois Bell for 36 years, then later worked for Crafts for Less in Lansing, IL, and Walts in Crete, IL. She was a member of the American Legion 330.
Eighteen years ago, she moved to Indiana to be closer to her daughters. At that time, she adopted two cats, and they kept her company as she worked on her crafts. She joined the Dyer VFW post 6448 and St Maria Goretti Church. She volunteered at Church and helped with the ministry of care. She loved quilting and baking for her entire family. Each child and grandchild has their unique quilt, and everyone fondly remembers grandma’s cookies and banana bread. She loved her family with everything she had. She lived for Christmas Eve when the entire family would come from near and far to be together. She started planning the following year’s Christmas on December 26.
Virginia also leaves behind her six grandchildren Laurie (Matt) Haraf, Michael (Lisa) Tinsley, Jennifer (Craig) Shimko, Kathleen (Rian) Beatty, Danny Gohring (who earned his wings shortly after he was born), Matthew (Jennifer) Gohring and Kristina “Nina” (Jim) Golden. Through them, she has 14 great-grandchildren whom she cherishes.
Our Mother, grandmother, and great-gram touched so many lives during her life and was loved by all. She truly had a life well lived.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 24 at 9 am at St Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Dr, Dyer, IN 46311, followed by a funeral mass at 10 am with Fr. Charles Niblick officiating.

She was the perfect mother-in-law. Always supportive. Called me to thank me for taking care of her son, or what are you cooking Mike for dinner? Always sent me a birthday gift and card.
