Walter J. Piech, 60, of Lowell, IN passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 18, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debbie; daughter, Kristi (Edward) Pomplun; sons, Joshua Piech and Jeremy (Allison) Piech; grandchildren, Patricia, Brett, Nathan, Alexander, Decklan and Mason; great granddaughter, Ari; brothers, James (Vicki) Piech, Joe (Jane) Piech and David Piech; sisters, Sharon (Carl) Rafferty and Sophia (Jeff) Herring; mother-in-law, Pat (late Jose) Lopez; sister-in-law, Pam (Phil) Smith. He was preceded in death by his son, William Sandefur Jr; parents, Herman and Violet Piech; brother-in-law, Brian Patterson and father-in-law, Thomas Patterson Sr. A Celebration of Walt‚Äôs life will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 1:00-6:00 pm at Joe and Jane Piech‚Äôs home at 7620 W. 89th Ave. Crown Point, IN 46307. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family would be appreciated. Walt retired as a Supervisor from LaSalle Steel in Griffith, IN. He was an avid fan of Antique Cars, Collecting Model Trains and working with wood. Walt looked forward to spending time boating at the lake with his family and friends as well as taking road trips on vacation.

I'm at loss for words and have been ALL week!! I just DON'T get it,taken WAY too soon. The most honest,giving,caring person out there. Celebration of life was phenomenal turnout!!! Was truly loved by many. Will be forver in my heart!! R.I.P. ‚ù§‚ù§

Walter was a really good friend when we were growing up and thanks to Facebook I was lucky to reconnect with him. He was a great man. My prayers go out to his family

I will miss Walter. He always had a smile and a kind word every time I would see him. I will never forget how many times he helped me out by shoveling off my drive way with his plow. He was a good, hard working man with a awesome family that loved him very much. You never understand why things like this happen and so very suddenly but they always say " God takes the good ones first' and in this case I know it is true. I will miss you Walter. May you rest in peace.
