Werner J. Zacharias, 88, of Schererville, IN passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Francine; daughter, Cher (Roger) Levin; sons, Joseph and Sandra Zacharias and Robert (Robin) Zacharias; grandchildren, Dana (Adam) Brodsky, Lauren Levin, Josh, Allison, Samantha, Shoshana and Jeremy Zacharias; great grandchildren, Harper and Brody Brodsky; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel in 2009; parents, Herschel and Erna Zacharias; brothers, Nathan and Henry Zacharias; sister, Ruth Silberstein. Funeral service will be on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will be at Kneseth Israel cemetery, Hammond, IN. Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00-1:00 pm at the funeral home. Werner was a member of Congregation Beth Israel. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the Property Manager of the Briar Ridge Property Owners Association and was the Police Commissioner of the Schererville Police Department. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Henry Zacharias memorial Fund would be appreciated.
