William Vern Brandenburg, age 85, of Lowell, IN, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday July 25, 2015. He was born in Hammond, IN on May 7, 1930 to the late Vern and Tressie Brandenburg. Loving father of William (Pam) Brandenburg, Patricia (John) Hrej, and Richard (Cheryl) Brandenburg; cherished grandfather of five, Robbie, Christy, Lauren, Derek and Nicollette; and great-grandfather of six. He was preceded in death by daughter, Margaret, and his wife of 62 years, Mary. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Hammond, IN. Visitation will be on Tuesday July 28, 2015, at the funeral home, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Bill was a Korean War Veteran served in the U.S. Army in Anchorage, AK Airborne Division from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the American Legion Post 369 of East Chicago, IN. Bill enjoyed bowling, fishing and traveling. He held a full time job with Inland Steel and a part time job, all his life to provide for his Family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area, in his memory would be appreciated. Well she said she be waiting for me just I wait and see So when I took my last breathe my Mary called to me. Take ahold of God's hand follow the light, Soon you'll be home so hold on tight. It was a long year without her and as hard as I had tried to live on Gods calling was clear, He said Son, Your mind is as sharp as a razor, but your body has give, I'm taking you out of your pain today and Heaven is where you'll now live. My prayers have been answered Eternity is where I now lye, Nestled with my Mary and next to Gods side. So if you should see a rainbow or butterfly it is Me and my Mary Just strolling by saying Hi….
